With the sudden demise of my LH IA MB845SE over the weekend I've grabbed these. As whilst the Arcam 8P gave me music it wasn't up to the standard I've come to expect, this pair of Nord One UP SE NC500 Mk2s seem to be filling in nicely. Only had them fired up for about an hour using the Node2 for RP & files, yet to run some vinyl but there's none of that obvious SS flavour coming at me.

Should be no obvious anything coming from them apart from a newfound tightness in the bass that class d does so well.

I seriously looked at those Nord Amps ages ago. I imagine they'll do sterling work for you. Far more reliable too? Fingers crossed for you, but they get great reviews and I reckon you'll be fine.

Yeah, sound V good with vinyl, and at £1k delivered (used) I reckon they're a bargain. Apparently the input buffers are Rev C and fitted with piggybacked Sonic Imagery 994 OP amps and also work well with Sparkos Labs SS3602 which supposedly give a warmer more valve like sound.

If you want to warm the sound up a bit change the blue LEDs for orange. In fact you should do that anyway.

Strangely enough, a few days ago I was reading some kind of review on Nord monos, the impression I got was they could sound 'sharp', so pleased you are happy with them.

Well Martin, lets just say that the VAST majority of owners of these these hypex modules using the stock PSU's and NCore units do leave them on all of the time, I do ask this question when they come in for repairs as to help with diagnosis before looking into the problem, all relevant information is very useful.
Not all of the audio public has a macca view of all things sonic Martin, remember your audio memory can play tricks on you the delights of psychoacoustics

It was always my understanding that with SS electronics (Class D tailored towards low consumption) it's preferable to the longevity of the circuit to leave it on all the time as every 'switch-on' can be quite stressful on the circuit.
Therefore it's not just a measure of time governing the longevity of electronics. The amount of 'switch-on's' will probably make the life-span even shorter compared to the 4 years of being left on.
Obviously you don't want Class A running all the time and getting too hot etc, which would cause wear quickly, but if it never gets above an acceptable temperature it sounds like a design fault if you can't leave it on for a certain amount of time without issue.
4 years doesn't sound awful however I think my dad left his Talk pre and power amp on for probably a decade before it needed attention.

Sorry the seem to last about 4 years if you leave them on all of the time And why would you in any case? I guess so the system is 'ready' to go at anytime without waiting for various bits to 'warm up'. More so with tubes but I've definitely found this to be the case with all equipment to some degree. I didn't used to find it particularly annoying but these days it does irk me somewhat knowing that I'll be waiting maybe half an hour before things sound at their absolute peak. (maybe more).

I used to do it myself but leaving on all the time just makes no sense. I grant you a valve amp can take 30 minutes or so to get to its best but no-one leaves valve amps on all the time anyway due to wearing out the valves and the safety issue.
But solid state? 5 minutes absolute tops and you're good. I know you get these Naim people saying 'When I come back from holiday and switch it all back on it takes a week or more to get back to its best' but that is utter balls.
What really happens is they forgot how edgy it sounds while they were away so long and it's a shock to come back to it fresh. After a week or so they've re-acclimatised to the 'Naim sound'.
never met an EE who recommended leaving it all powered up all the time, they all say switch off when not in use. No doubt there'll be one somewhere though.

When you electronics guys say switch it off, are you referring just to switching off at the on/off button on the front OR the main on/off switch at the rear next to the iec socket?? Last night I just turned them off via the front button.

You should never leave valve gear unattended IMO.

They're growing on me the more, hours I listen. Clean and detailed but not etched, definitely not a cold sound like I imagined class D would be. The decision to buy (beside the Icon going down) was helped by hearing some xtz 300 monos at ChrisPHs place on Friday

I certainly do not find the bright at all, far from it, they are also quite solid sounding. With a full discrete dedciate front end (the op varients are not bad)a good LPS they can become very listenable imho.
Still not convinced with 50Khz -3dB BW though
