AAAARRRSEHOOOOLLES!! Having reintroduced the Icons to the MLs via the 4 Ohm tap (was using the 8 before) and loving what the 845s bring to the party, the LH mono has let go this avo. Start with a slightly annoying pop which I thought nothing of, that is until a few seconds later when I noticed the RH 845 of the pair was glowing red. Switched off, changed valve for one of my spares, switched on and all was good so gave it 10 mins to warm up before checking the bias. LH valve slightly ghtly out so adjusted it back in, went to check RH valve I'd just swapped and no movement on meter it just sat at 006 mV instead of moving towards 400 mV. Rang Henry (Toprepairman) and no answer so rang Allen not realising NG he iLanzeroteš¤£š¤£ anyway went through it with him + swapped another spare in and bloody amp started making a screaming noise with either valve so it's now all off and am, having to use system 2. When is this shite going to stop? AAARRGGHH!!! When you buy some proper amplificaton? I am of course joking, or partly.... Seriously, those amps cost north of Ā£8K IIRC, and to have to keep battling them for reliability would drive me up the wall. Get yourself something that will drive those ML's and grip them. Thers a Plinius on the Wam, It'll do a grand Job and is a steal at the price. macca has a very lush sounding Krell KSA100 MKII that he might sell, He also has a spare KSA50s lol. Id recommend a couple of 686's but i am getting boring lol....although thats what i would do. Options: One of these would do a superb job. Had one here, it was bloody impressive www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284531216529?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338381867&toolid=10001&customid=a92f51a6-5dcf-11ec-8336-396239656233

If push comes to shove I can get the Nords back and stick them in. My IAs are the mk1s and I'm pretty sure it's the bloody Jentzen resovoir caps that is the problem this time as same noise is produced as when RH amp went (taking the output Tx with it) when I 1st got them in 2017. The RH one has been good as gold since being sorted under warranty by the dealer I bought them from secondhand. Either way it needs to be sorted before I can move them on, so taking them to Henry's tomorrow (90 mile round trip) to get sorted.

All I can say here is I've now been running some even bigger Logan's with a fairly basic spec 686. It's completely rock solid in every conceivable way.
I didn't think I could tear myself away from fully tubed output (300b's, KT88's, 845's and more) but I haven't even looked at a tube amp since. That's the truth.
The Krells are an awesome amp too and both would be considered a no brainer for power deliver and sonics.
I know it is following the crowd a bit but they have this rep for a good reason, their popularity is in my opinion, fully justified.
I really feel for you, it totally sucks when you keep thinking you're in the clear, then oh FFS here again

Bad luck Lurch, and just when the Nord's were away on demo. Hope you can get it fixed and the cost isn't too great, you obviously like the Icon's but might be worth a listen to an SS again, they can't all be wrong on here regarding the Neurochrome, can they? Looking at Bigman's link, couldn't help noticing another pair of mono's www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265317999677?hash=item3dc62f643d:g:k2oAAOSw8tZhRPQBJust one more thing, are moderators allowed to tell porkies on this form "but I haven't looked at a tube amp since"

Omfg. Not again. Gosh, I really feel for you, John.
Get it sorted, then maybe have a fundamental rethink about your system? Or take up knitting.
I always keep at least one spare of everything, just in case. Even if the power cops out I can still use headphones from my phone for a couple of days!

Just one more thing, are moderators allowed to tell porkies on this form "but I haven't looked at a tube amp since" Yes Dave, yes they are. Swear guv'nor, tis the truth though . . . . I've got a freshly upgraded (with very nice regulators) custom, point to point wired 300B power amplifier sitting at home. I have literally heard it once (and that was at Alan's after he'd finished the work for me). There is literally no need to swap the 686 out for anything. Although it is due to be away soon . . . so I'll probably plumb her in then. But I think you get my point . . .
