Hi all,
For sale is my Croft series 5 Valve amplifier. It's been heavily upgraded. Firstly by Glenn croft, who did the following:
Fixed bias output stage with bias supply from a separate transformer
Modified front end direct coupled to an improved long tailed pair phased splitter both using different valves
New HT Caps
Upgraded resistors
Modified HT Reg
Modified feedback circuit
Then by firebottle:
6x Miflex Cu Film Caps
CMC Copper Binding posts
CMC RCA sockets
OCC Input wiring
External Bias test points
The amplifier will come with a full set of new valves with less than 20 hours on, and a full spare set of back up valves. It has the original Partridge transformers too, which are a huge plus.
Current Valve compliment:
8x 6P14p-EV Reflektor valves (EL84 eq)
3x GE ECC82 NOS valves
1x Sovtek ECC83 Smooth Long Plate
1x Reg valve
1x Raytheon 6080 Valve
Cosmetically, its very good for it's age but there are a few marks on the front which i have polished out to a good result, but it isn't perfect.
Physically it is very solid and sounds super transparent. Quite easily the best Valve amp I have heard, and I know everyone would say that, but I genuinely rate this amplifier and have been 50/50 over selling it because of how good this one is. It pushes my Neurochrome 686 in so many ways and the fact it's been in my system since the upgrades were done, says so much.
I'm told with a new set of fully matched valves, there is a realistic 25wpc of power. It also has all the screws now in place, as i hadn't put them in for the photos lol...numpty.
I think £1000 is very fair considering all the improvements made to it and the fantastic base it started from. In the real world a Valve Amplifier of this quality would be thousands. It's a serious unit.
Due to it not being mint, i will accept £900 from a longstanding forum member. I won't budge on the price for this amp.
Collection only, as its bloody heavy and there is no way I'm shipping all of that glass
