and one day, somehow I will have one as part of my end game system One can only say these are a beautiful turntable, I was reading on another forum a thread on the new Technics 1200, and this was mentioned, someone felt sq wise it cannot be far ahead of the 1200G?

I've no idea what they sound like - pretty decent I'd imagine - but I just love the blingy, steam punk looks. They sound like bloody hifi, not for you Jerry, stick with a nice Prima Luna would be my advice I was pleased to get out of the room after 40 minutes when I heard that make matched up with Magico's

No, guv. That link is for German Physiks - different make, totally different design principle from MBL. I reviewed the smallest German Physiks speaker for Hifi Pig about 8 years ago. Very good, actually. They are Omnis like MBL but totally different kind of driver.

However there is likely to be a large disparity in terms of work, design, custom made parts etc that does set them apart. I do wonder, especially seeing as the SP10 MK2's we run have been extensivley fettled, how much there is to be had between those and the new SP10R. My primary thought is that the huge price tag is likely down to it being "NEW" Would i like one? Dunno really. I know that i haven't heard a TT that would dislodge my SP10, so i'd certainly love a listen!! The other thing abou them that i find wierd, is that those who *could* afford one, still arent buying them. They are obviously a world class TT, as is the MK2 and MK£, but Technics still don't seem to be able to break into that sphere of big spending elites. They are still buying rubber band TT's for £100k etc.

* Btw - That Ortofon Windfeld TI is around £3.5K which is a lot more than the £1850 Cadenza Black. My guess is that sonic difference would be subtle but definitely better, a notch up - more lifelike, more dynamic, better portrayal of texture/timbres, so again, would be more than worth it for me, funds permitting, I would.

Apart from SNR (-73db Vs -90db) there really isn't a great deal to choose between them, and truth be told, if you were buying a turntable for SNR, you'd buy a belt drive in all probability.
It probably could be better, but I don't think £10k better and probably not £5k better.
I think the addition of the tenuto Platter to an SP10 MK2 would probably help achieve SNR and WoW/Flutter numbers too.
I'm not convinced I'd make the move if I had the money going spare. More gain to be had from an Ortofon A95 etc.
Admittedly, it's a beautiful bit of kit and it would match the BB3 nicely lol

There are no doubt some excellent belt drives to be had out there. I've never heard a high end belter, but I'm a dd man through and through. I've never liked metal platter mats, finding them to offer up a sheeny / overt clarity which some love but i find unnatural to my ears - one mans meat.... I once had one of these - The expensive/exotic Oyaide MJ-12 with it's pretty matching record weight, some years back when I first purchased the SL1210g I had then - lived with the mat and weight for a short while and sold them on. I too hankered for an A95 and wouldn't right off trying one, one day. I get the impression that it is a very incisive tool, like the very best aspects of cd in an analogue sense, if you get my meaning. My own personal punt would be towards the Windfeld Ti first, for a number of reasons, particularly it is said to offer a very lifelike, tangible presentation including in regard to timbre / texture, now I like that in terms of vinyl analogue replay.

Yeah, I think an A95 is quite likely at some point to land here. I hope anyway.

If we got to talk turntables then this: I nearly bought one, a minter, from a bloke in Swiss Switzerland but was an expensive punt and I got talked out of it. Wish I hadn't as the going rate has more than doubled since.

There's one on now but he wants £1600 and I could have had that Swiss one for £550 - plus the carriage but could have had that cheap through work.
They are super-cool but no-one I found who had actually heard one was that impressed.

Lol I've got a Nagaoka MP500 on it how more decent do you think I should go?
That Revox thing was ten years ago almost when I was still bothering with vinyl.

I actually reckon it's too good for the stock arm. That is to say the arm is holding back performance of the MP500. The top end Nags (MP300 & 500) are as good as anything you can get when fully exploited IME.
I don't at all go along with the idea that MC carts are inherently superior. I don't know how that convention ever got started.
So I'd need to improve the arm first. Just a money pit.

The mm/mc reasoning is explained, simply here and here www.yoursoundmatters.com/moving-magnetic-vs-moving-coil-phono-cartridges-whats-the-difference/I've lived with excellent examples of both, mc's are more refined in terms of pulling right across / the extremes of the frequency range, most particularly the high frequencies. There can also be a perceived fastness experienced with some tracks, over mm's, with mc's At the same time, there are some not so great mc's which will be bettered by some very good mm's in my opinion. My experience of the 2M Black really opened my eyes to what a quality mm can do. The Nag 500 is Nagaokas flagship and often regarded as one of the best mm's with the black and a few others. Some people just wrongly think that if it's mc, no matter what mc, then it's better than an mm - not always so

I like linear trackers in case you haven't guessed I would've liked to try a linear tracker, unsure whether I've actually heard one, but can remember reading a review of a Bermann tt, and that got me thinking, problem was I didn't know if I'd be able to use the arm, not very good with stuff like that, although Bermann di seem to make arms that look simple to use. I know you all like to see photo's of tt's so here's Bergann's top of the line offering www.monoandstereo.com/2019/02/bergmann-audio-black-galder-turntable.html

I had (briefly) a Technics SL7 - tbh it was fairly mediocre. It sounded like the midfi cack that it looked like. Imo. The convention that mc carts are inherently better than mm came about cos it's true.

You put the record on, close the lid and press play. No different to using a CD player.

The convention that mc carts are inherently better than mm came about cos it's true. I don't know about the SL7 but the SL6 was good and good build quality too. I sold it along with an AR amp and KEF Calindas to a friend, he has that lot set up in a very large room and it all sounds excellent. Not 'mid-fi by any stretch. And his wife and sons can play their records on it without having to learn any arcane practices or worry about breaking it. Nagaokas aren't moving magnet cartridges - maybe that's where the confusion lies...

I would like to hear how your MP50(0) compares to my Music Maker Classic. Both are MI, and will give MCs a good run for their money.

If I had the choice, I think I would go with an ART1000, on the end of a suitably decent arm, on a decent TT, like a new 1200G/SP10(R).

I had a Nag 300 - I'd take a good mc cart at the same price any day. But it's horses for courses - imo mc excel with classical, no comparison.

well it's all academic to me now anyway. Like arguing over the performance of a horse and cart when you could just buy a car instead.
