Wow those Tad speakers look lovely. As you know Tad is still my dream speaker as they really can do that disappearing 3d thing. Sadly I'm still not in the market for £20k+ speakers. Your customer is one very lucky person. But sorry, what's up with that wallpaper!

he hasn't decorated since 1957 - because he spends his cash on important stuff like speakers. And saxophones.

I'll agree, one very lucky customer, although I haven't heard this model, others have sounded excellent. Regarding the wallpaper, Tony's must be colour blind

I had the chance to listen to these speakers at Tony's lair. I would very happily have these if I had the space, the money, and the supporting kit to make the most of them.

Sorry chaps just have been really busy since the show and the have the priviledge of being very busy for the next 8-10 weeks! Great to catch up with so many familiar faces at the show both old and new, all of at the Coherent team really enjoyed the experiance, energy and all round great vibe of thes show, we have been involved with this event right from the start and as far as we (and a great many others) the most complete & realistic audio show in the UK. Some snap shots of the weekend plus it was great to see Sue & Harriet Townshend at the show.

That pic reminds me of a classic joke my nan used to tell:
"How many Mutec's does it take to re-clock a signal . . . "
ans:
"Two, two to re-clock the signal and a 10Mhz box of tricks to keep em in check!"
Oh, how the family used to laugh . . .
Nice pics of some nice kit Tony, are those homemade acoustic panels by the way? Made a few myself, those look good.

Just finished a long term project for a patient client. The Merging Nadac has just been fitted with a full Coherent Quiet power five rail ultra quiet power supply (between 4-8uA of ripple current at the point of use on the dac upto 3 amps with the internal Nuc) Very involved yet satisfying project. measures & sounds rather good the noise floor is seriously low! Check out our totally British engineered, designed and built using 88% sourced UK components. From a single to 8 rails upto 30Vdc & 10 amps. Some internal restructuring was required to enable the correct Mergering turn on and shut down procedure to operate as the factory intented.
Merging are one of those companies that have their roots in pro audio, they are Swiss and like Nagra have a long establish heritage with audio, the unit I have been workingon has a streaming module/player inside and has 8 channels plus a headphone ampifier with its own dedicated dac chip.
I have zero connection with Merging, other than to admire their products, its quality piece make no mistake its been a pleasure to work on a very well thought out and greatly engineered piece . This model starts from around £13K I believe.

Well yesterday I finially managed to get near the new arrivals that top up the drive on Monday with their delivery pallet and was very pleasantly surpised at the condition of them! The 'fresh off the boat' Big W's are in rather spiffing condition, in fact the 27ix looks like it just been let out of the box the condition is that good, was seriously stunned and that doesn't happen very often Also it came with the optional dedicated remote, and it's a real parler of remote which was a dedicated version specifically for the 27ix dac you even get a certificate with it (on the yanks could conjure that one up lol). Ony ever seen one of these before, this is a non pussy remote!
The three box new 9 series is in almost as good condition and even for me they are heavy man!

Time is just slipping away this year, I can't believe it's October already The days just seem to cascade into each other and weeks arn't far behind madness! So feeling like a dog's dickin a whisk I thought I wouldcatch up with some social media an blog posts.
So its been a while sine I updated the blog, our work load is quite something these days, we have taken on two extra staff (plus a new brach in the North West opening on 1st November).
Here is a snippet of what we have been upto, with new projects/servicing/repairs and upgrades in the last five weeks or so.

A very rare beastie passed the doors recently a Nagra HD Tube dac, a real top of the line D2A that even the hard core vinyl crowd hanker after. Even I would consider one to use in my second system and very, very few pieces obtain that honor, incredibly liquid and wonderfully musical plus understated looks.

Not too sure about understated looks Tony, may be for Nagra. That wouldn't stop me wanting to hear one though.

I really wish I had more time to catch up with these blog posts, in the last six monrths I really have no idea where the rtime has jusat gone to its quite bonkers and worrying at the same time Hope all of you have had a good start to the new year and its being kind as well.
Currently we are heavily involved with some none audio projects that's been taking up my time all be it very interesting work with some new quardriture 32bit ADC's tied into some new PDN's we are working on for T&E devices and maybe a new piece of audio .
Our North West branch under the experianced hand of Peter Wolliscroft has been going from strength to strength and is proving a good move from the Coherent family group.
Anyone wishing to benefit from Peter great wisdom & knowledge sould give him a call, he's a throuighly bloody nice bloke with the time and patience of professional.
Or service centre has seen some real interesting pieces of audio in this time and we have also expanded this area as well with another first class electronics engineer Steve joining the team as well.
Coherent Systems services
I will find some time in the next copuple of weeks to bring you fully up to date with tales for the labs and weat we'e been up to.
Last week we had three more DCS owners join the growing ranks of Mutec Ref 10 owners and it really delivering music greater realism and naturalness to their systems which given their status in the world of hifi is proving to be a real winner for them.
One very lucky chap had a Rockna/Mutec combo installed last week it's a cracking musically engaging combination, the smile on his face was a wide as the Mersey tunnel.

Well I've been waiting patiently for five months ( however the R&D scope I'd promised myself since it was launched has arrived a few days earlier than anticipated along with the last special probe I require for the aerospace work we are involved with. However I must finish off some customers orders this evening ................... must resist opening boxes
You know certain things are just worth waiting for and like a fine wine that ages garcefully and more appealingly this beast of a scope is one of them. So when the time is more freer the full debullshitication of audio will begin in earnest, in the mean time 20 billion samples a second awaits

You know how time marches on, another week rolls by and suddenly its summer, and the birds are as happy as larry, people have smiles on their faces and gnerally life is that bit better I feel Maybe that's simplistic but it feels that way, althought this afternoon its been a trifle damp and a little discombobulating. But it could be worse so lets crack on with it.
Its all hands to pumps this week with the superb North West Audio Show happening this weekend, we really rate and like this show and have supported it since it's inception. Lots to see and do, good food sensible costs, great grounds and hotel plus one of the few shows that exhibitors make a good effort for. Right in the heart of Whipper thrasher & toe tapper land, its the anti-thesis of Bristol. Great atmosphere & a relaxed musical environment with very little hifi pap imho. audioshow.co.uk/Over the weekend I thought I'll just try and see if I could cajole W25 into giving some more of its rather special musical moxy up. Recently while working on some aerospace projects and an idea had sprang to mind, so I felt it was worth a try. you know when you get that itch, you just jave to break out the inductrial grade back scratcher This also gave me change to try out a new set of H & E field sniffer probes plus one of the bench essential the spectrum analyser from those masters of RF Rhode & Schwarz (due to some new projects I'm on the hunt for a nifty slick version, so while you chaps were enjoying the superb weather yesterday I was playing hunt the RF noise if I could find any given the lengths i have been going to lol Anyway the upshot is quite noticebale even after 14 hours of use, the sheer presence this dac now exudes is most grin inducing like a honey badger taking a chunck out of a lion's ball sack whilst flipping him the finger and dancing on his hind legs Depth on this dac has always been one of the strongest traits in stock form, it never disappoints big wide and DEEP now its plain old intoxicatingly cavernous in the least, also the noise floor has reduced a little (lol) not that it was high in any way, I have managed to reduce the noise between the fudemental harmonics to deep, deep, way down in the mud. Even Qoboz sounds like the old days with files now, quite listenable. I did spot some mains coupling from 50 to 500Hz, although this was between -88 & -115 dBc with the ref level @ +20dBc and that was with the lab supply and not the system power supply. Given this is the stock Tx I'm quite please with this Here you can see how we look at the dac while on the analyser & using the EMI spurrious noise location app on the spectrum analyser at the same time. Also a new lens for the Nikon as well, the H field probe is virtually sat on one of the clocks this is purely for illistration, you can see the probe holder in the background but the shot didn't look right so some artistic license was used! However not shabby a result in any way.
Thought this maybe of interest to you chaps

Yet again time is hurtling away at FTL speeds, its nearly September for crying out loud, the workshop & sales have been busy over the summer (lol) months plus I'm working on some interesting new projects: One IoT wearable medical tech plus some new 5/6G communication devices which do require quite significant investment to enable you to obtain accurate. repeatable high bandwidth abilities IE over 25Ghz . Have restored some really nice older equipment recently including a rather nice Akai 2350 (which in fairness looks like it had just left the factory before we had the privilege of working on it) who says you need gazillons of watts to sound good! More lab updates and internal restructuring, new to chez Coherent towers a really neat time saving piece of test equipment a Keysight N6705C DC power analyser which is in effect four instruments in one neat package an DVM digital volt meter / Arbitrary wave form generator this allows you to design your own wave forms to simulate various load/ start up and power draw changes within a devices power/ load state change and power down cycles / Data logging which allows you to monitor the device under test performance over a given time period then go back and analyser the data at a later time very handy for references / Oscilloscope mode which allows wave form visual read out in the time Vs voltage domain. The device has four modular slots which allows up to 4 individual power supplies to be fitted, or DC electronic load modules as well. It can even accommodate a SMU (source / measure unit which can source and sink current in one module) so really 6 instruments. Images to follow next week once I've install a wraparound curved 34inch 4K monitor and rejigged the main lab bench (again) As mentioned before due to the upcoming projects it has been necessary to bite the bullet; so I have been negotiating for one these measurement power houses, as I'm fresh out of kidneys and like to keep my sound system (lol) robbing banks these days is a bit old hat, seems that digital white collar crime is in vogue (lol) not that I wouldn't know WTF to start Anway in the not-too-distant future one of these world class signal analysers’ will be finding its way to the lab, have measured up and worked out its location (lol) not much I can't dig out of the so-called digital mud with this wee beastie.

Ok, inbetween the bouts of soldering iron twirling, diagnostic work and large amplifier disection I finially managed to fit the new power & sink modules to my new bench toy. Slight issue is that the enw load can handle 40 amps and the front panel bindings are 'only' rated for 20 amps so I fabicated a new daul loom that exits from the rear of the analyser plus a pair of sense wire (fully sheilded) for extra precision measurments.
Also got to try out the new Pathwave power analyser software, it's rather natty including a scope view/datalogger and arb generator for designing ramp up on / down waveforms for testing swicth on and on's currents etc.
This is going to save a lot of timing when designs power/communications and IoT circuits in the comming months.
Below I am testing out a power supply for a Leo Bodnar clock, note the four wire sense connections for utimate accuarcy. Second image is of the data logger.

I actually have a few minutes this morning before the next session kicks off for the day, so I thought I would share with you what we have been up to since the last post some 10 weeks ago, seriously where does the time go? Over the last twelve weeks we have been extraordinarily busy on all fronts of the business, sales/repair/upgrades/design and the consultancy side, travelled pretty much the length and breadth of the country a couple of times including a Danish trip! A few complete systems have been installed, the electronic labs has been busier than ever and I have finished off some new and what I feel exciting designs for a new amplifier range, plus I have started on our own dac system (at last) Some new brands will be introduced shortly which we feel will cause potential purchasers of the 'usual suspects' to stop and take stock and listen to that will cause them to think long and hard at what they feel is 'right' Tad have released some wonderful new products including a evolution pre amplifier and two new pairs of speakers, including the Grand Evolution 1 which recently demonstrated at the Tokyo show to great acclaim. Our pairs should be landing in mid to late Januray 2024 Some interesting projects including three complete systems looms, an 8m balanced XLR analogue interconnect with 1946 feet of material inside all aspects of construction (never again!).
So here are some images of what we have been up to recently.
That is a small selection of what has passed through our doors recently, below are a couple of images of a new FBR we have come up with to compliment our new power amplifier designs and lastly our measurment capabilities have increased again with some new scope probes to enbale very small signal and serial data abilities particularly DDR3/4, PCIE 3 & 4 plus ultra low noise DC power rail on circuit board ability.

Recently one of clients had us accquire a Playback Designs MPD-6 with the optional internal X streaming module for his high quality system. Spent some time with this superb dac. We also spent time indepth measuring & listening. The MPD-6 is rather good and then some a real DCS killer with attitude and insight. Very interesting and enjoyable sound. If you ever get the chanced to listne to one please do, it will make you think what an off the shelf unit properly designed can achieve.
