Is that the V1.1 686 or the old one, like Oli has?
I shall be seeing how my 686 compares to an AHB2 at some point soon.

Alan is under the strictest instructions that the Krell MUST come only a very close second to the reigning champion (probably upgraded) N-686 - Oh sh** did I write that here?! Benchmark AHB2 notwithstanding . . . . Ah yes, you too are in the 686 owners club, are you not? You knows it . . . . still cannot find (real) fault. The only other one to be hand-built by Tom too! I gather yours has gone through some upgrades so I imagine has well overtaken it . . . . Was reading through some old threads and mine was wired out of phase too! Luckily my speakers alerted me to this pretty early on in ownership so I opened her up and just swapped the L&R around on one board. They weren't wired symmetrically so it looked strange as soon as I opened it up.

Mine does not use SMPS for power, is cabled up with good quality OCC cable, and has pure copper plugs.
It should be interesting, as the V1.1 is closer to the AHB2, apparently.

yeah yeah laugh it up. usually you can tell a good 'un from the first few bars of music, that's why I thought it was a bit odd Engine suddenly having doubts about his Denon so long after he first got it. Especially given that he clearly uses it a lot. Looks like it was a dirty contacts problem with the Krells too, coincidentally. And now you have two of the things! Do i need a Krell?............. Intending to keep both then I have a spare. You can never have too many Krells. Might let the KSA100 go if someone really wants it but otherwise I'll be keeping that too. I think values will go up. There's only so good an amp can possibly be and I reckon that the 686 is there. Spend the cash on your garage conversion. Your system in a dedicated room - that's going to be knockout.

I have been mercilessly blaming Alan for wiring it out of phase and it seems he only copied how Tom may have sent it lol....oh dear...sorry Al Upgrades....oh yes. A one off Meaty PSU by Angus, Copper terminals, OCC wiring. Worth doing IMO. The PSU especially as mine tightened up the bass, and just sounded a little cleaner throughout. Took ages for the Mundorf to relax though. It was all a little too sharp at first.

I've tried the ahb2 vs my bridged mod86p, with my yams and mrdogs 989s, plus subs and dsp.
I had the vaguest of feelings that the ahb2, was a little more fleshed out in the bass, thats it. Can't imagine there'd be any difference with a 686.

I mean, it's okay, we can still blame Alan seeing as both amps were in his custody shortly after we purchased them . . . . only joking Alan (as he can now hold my 300b to a kings ransom) . . . . Would you mind PMing me the details of the upgrades Oli?

I can ask him and get a bit of detail, if he is feeling up to replying. He's not been 100% of late. There are some pictures somewhere on the forum, ill see if i can find them.

Okay no worries mate, especially if he's feeling less than alright. Best to him of course. Yeah I'll do some research and have a look too. Cheers anyway.
