Be warned though that Geoff gets an odd click on track change, I never did but thought I'd better let you know. Remember to check cost for posting to the UK, nudge nudge

Brian, that R2R DAC Hat I had on my Pi4 was very, very close to the Denafrips Ares II that I now own, think it was around £170 posed to the UK. Geoff (gninnam) now owns it and he really likes it too. It's Andy, not Geoff . Yes, I do like it but did not find it head and shoulders above the IQAudio DAC+ I had before, but sounds 'right' True about the 'click' - discussed with Ew, the designer/builder who told me: Please make sure your software volume is off in your Volumio. Software volume will reduced sound quality by reducing the bit, no matter what DAC you use . The software volume will emphasized the popping sound when changing tracks. The NOS R2R DAC is very common of popping sound with some track change, it happened sometimes. Normally people will press pause ( or stop ) and then click next track to reduce this. The reason is , the Raspberry Pi should give continuous clock when track change , but the raspberry pi software stopped all clocks when you press next , and then restart again. All commercial players such as CD players has continuous clock to prevent this. The music player MPD ( for raspberry Pi ) developer didn't care of this because those all Delta Sigma DAC will not effect with the clock .They are some software ( old Moode audio 3.8.4 for example ) has no such issue. If you search on forums on Raspberry Pi DAC track change popping sound issue , people keep talking about this issue for years when they used R2R DAC like AD1862, AD1865, TDA1543, etc. There is a way to solve it by adding a muting board on it, I can send you a muting board for free ( you pay shipping and board is free ) but you need to install it by yourself by soldering 6 pieces of wires onto the DAC. I didn't include the board as standard because 99% of users refused to use muting board, they want it to be as simple as possible to maintain the sound quality. They believe that the muting will effect the sound quality . I always have the software volume off so I just live with it now.

That click would probably drive me mad . I had the same problem with a DAC years ago . It didn't last very long in my system

You sure it's Andy 😂 Where the hell did I get Geoff from? Actually I know, I sold my Pecan DAC to Geoff at much the same time as I sold the R2R one 🤦♂️ brian2957 thing is I didn't get the clicking in my system, but maybe too expensive to try if it does give issues.

Yup , problem is some of the more obscure DACs , even though they may be excellent , can be difficult to sell on .

As this is 'my DAC' now (big thanks to Oli again!) or are we all just custodians of kit on here!! I've added a nice little Furutech copper inlet. The cable being soldered directly to the input to the power supply just meant I was somewhat limited to placement and also that with the addition of my new power distribution box I would have to have a cable from the distribution box effectively connected to the power supply box permanently! This just seemed like a nice neat solution. Here is the inlet: And on the actual unit: Now rack placement is much less of a hassle. A good thing when you have 5 separate boxes entirely dedicated to just digital playback . . . .
