Well been playing with this in both systems and it's working well. Great for convenience and exploring thimgs gia spotify. Than last night played some vinyl through the bb3 and the difference in quality was pretty stark. So probably not for serious listening but good for background and pottering. Nice to have a playlist on the go to.

It's good fun, cheap convenience and easy to use but whenever you put it up against something of quality, the holes in the performance are very obvious. PecanPi for a huge upgrade at not a lot of money. You are then approaching serious levels of digital. Then you need to spend pretty significant sums to get close to vinyl.

Yeah , but if you look at reports for R2R (or chip for that matter) DACs for £1k or a bit less you can get some stellar performers by the sound of it. These seem to compare favorably with some quite pricey vinyl set ups. So to replace my cart alone (new) would cost about £1300, that could get a pretty good DAC and a bit more for a streamer would set you up pretty well long term. If that got pretty close I'd be happy I reckon tbh. I do have a reasonable record collection though and some of it you can't get digitally so I'd never be without a turntable mind.

Yes, the cost of replacing carts does tally quite nicely with the necessary spend for a decent Digital setup. You could probably do really well at the minute too as there is now a shed load of DACs being sold to fund Denafrips purchases 🤣

Running a PI with an R2R DAC and its good so you don't have to spend mega bucks to be honest (although I much prefer my vinyl rig).
