Yeah.. think mine is too. It’s got to Tamworth, but UPS are now saying 20th.
Don’t trust them much since I had a ups collection of an SP10 then 3 hours later another UPS driver turned up to collect again. Tried telling me it was impossible that someone else had collected it. Don’t panic Mr Mainwairing.

I've even left a comment on this video, "I prefer the Topping but at nearly double the price, the SMSL has to be the winner" Did someone say they are getting a Ares ii, I guess this tip could easily be reversed if you don't like it What is the difference between the SU-8 and the SU-9?

Now I've heard it all, how can anyone take anything that clown reviews seriously?

Put a banana on top of your DAC and be amazed at how the soundstage opens out. Now orientate the stem of the banana to North-Northwest and be amazed again.
How does it work? I don't know but it does! Now remove the banana and listen again - your DAC will sound broken by comparison!

We are doomed.
Macca is talking bananas...
Either that, or his post is a blatant banana plug.

My first speakers were Royd Eden’s from a well known dealer near Warrington. He pulled the Royd badges off because Peter Belt had been in and said they sounded better without. Still have the Eden’s but never did find the badges again.

Any feedback on the Denafrips? Sorry too busy listening to music 😂 I like it, I’m using a Pi4B running MoOde Audio via usb and it sounds really good, bass is tight and deep, with real impact even at low levels, I’m only at 6 on the dial out of 100 and you can just about feel the impact in the room, vocals sound real, acoustic guitar is superb, it really drives the sound into the room, fills it width wise too, although the business end of the room is fairly narrow, I sit about 9m away in the larger part of the living room and the HiFi sits in the converted garage area that is our home cinema area with projector and screen that comes down to the top of the speakers. Electronic music is excellent with it. I’ll certainly be keeping it until a cheap Denafrips Pontus II comes along, but that’s only so I can get a silver faceplate as most of my kit is silver 😉 Mind you it’s sitting on in top of the Denon PMA850 (not in use) and apart from the little red leds it’s not really seen. Next to it is my Pi4 in Argon case. Only very minor gripe with it is that the seller never told me that 2 of the little rubber discs were missing from the very bottom of the feet. He perhaps didn’t even know of course. PS: wife working from home AGAIN today so can’t really push the volume 😞

Any feedback on the Denafrips? Only really had chance to listen through headphones (Oppo’s) Outstanding. Blows the mojo out of the water... and in truth I can only compare with the Pecan and Mojo which are cheaper. This is in another league. Imaging, separation, low frequency etc etc are all so much better. Feeding via usb from an Allo USbridge Have some cable issues to address today before being able to listen via Lyngdorf/Harbeths No regrets here though.

Very full body and amazing detail. It gives you a taste of DAVE probably 70%. If you could push on and get the M-Scaler it will blow your mind and give about 85% of DAVE.
Heres a nice very recent review of the Qutest and I would echo exactly what Steve Huff says about it.

Hi Jim I went for the Denafrips Ares 2 in the end... not the Qutest. Mind you it was a close run thing. If the taxman hadn’t asked for money on account it might have been a different matter. No buyers remorse so far though.!

Yes, that’s the comparison I’d like to hear too. That’s why it all became a bit of a gamble based on reviews really. However I’m very pleased so far. Denafrips also do a digital to digital converter, the Iris. I’d want to hear this (£500) combined with the Ares against a Qutest.

It’s a reclocker I believe. Oh! I wish I knew more about digital malarky Your not the only one! Think for me one of the other advantages is that apart from the reclocking aspects it outputs to coax/spdif and a few other options. Given that I like the Allo USbridge I’m kind of tied to usb from it.. still like to hear it if only to eliminate it.

Just got to see which I can find at the best price.

Well..... here I am sitting hear listening to the Ares. I have no way of comparing it to the Topping or the RME. They might be as good...
but all I can say that my wife has gone to bed having been told, and booked her vaccine for Monday... I’m sat here in a kind of wonder.
Firstly thankful for modern medicine ... but obviously how a Chinese company can make kit like this using high end Japanese components at this kind of price. Usually at this point in the evening she will come down and tell me it’s too loud. I know it isn’t.. the volume dial tells me that. But I’m hearing so much more and what I am hearing is so pleasurable.
Oh... and she is getting the vaccine on Monday. Trump is gone. Get a Denafrips Ares.
