Cagey, burn a cdr of a favourite disc. Then play it and listen for the noise of it starting up in 5he player, how long it takes to read the TOC and start playing. Then try it with the real cd.
There's a difference because of how and where the TOC is written on a cdr.
If you know what to look for, it's easy to hear, then let the music play for a minute before impressing someone by pretending its magic.
