All good suggestions, we should try and organise it if/when Covid goes away.
There seems to be a total absence of blind, back to back comparisons of DACs in both the literature and the forums. Is it really true that they all sound the same once sighted bias is removed? I think a lot of people would be very interested in the outcome of such a test. Odd that no-one has done it already.

I agree. The DAC world doesn't seem as interested in this element. I know DACs don't sound the same so it will be good if a wider group of people experienced that too

It could become an expensive event to attend. I am blissfully ignorant at the moment.

I think the punters are interested, very much so. It's the professional reviewers who aren't so keen to try it and you have to ask yourself why that is?
Some of these You-Tube types do it full time and make hundreds of grand a year, so they certainly have the time and the resources. But they tend to review one DAC in isolation, at best they might compare two but always sighted with no controls.
I suspect if we do it we will find that some are slightly different and that's it. But only one way to know for sure.

It would be I teresting to see how an expensive DAC compares to my modded Caiman SEG, the Asus DAC in my PC and the Graham Slee Majestic I have here. Sure, the £3k to £6k DACs will probably sound better, but the VFM may be very poor.

If I had access to more DACs, that I didn't have to buy, I would happily compare them, but to get anything here means I have to buy it and I'm not going to do that as DAC don't appear to hold their value anywhere near as well as the Analogue gear.

Yes, that's why we need a meet where we can pool the DACs we already have.
If there are worthwhile differences between them then would see logical that there can be worthwhile differences between other DACs too.

I think a bake off of DACs, in a good room with a good system, would be very beneficial in seeing what lies beyond the level we forumites seem to be comfortable spending. I'd quite like to do it so the DAC playing is unknown to the listener. I think that would be interesting and beneficial too. That could be rather interesting and worth a trip down from the North to listen depending on the lineup.
Eventually or

Do it sighted and you'll hear differences, do it blind and check your guesses and ill wager you won't.
Maybe at home in familiar surroundings differences might be audible, in a new room with new speakers, nah.
