I was reviewing some convos on another forum and wondered why a couple seemed to have disappeared, which led to hearing of this forum... and here you are!
I love music played well and reproduced well in a way that is both quality and draws me in. So, I appreciate good meaurements but not if they're not validated in the listening. I ran across a dicussion of Ncore today where someone was talking about the superlative measured performance and the oddity of input buffers for engaging sound, when they could only make the measurements worse. The other responded undefensively, what if it is what some call distortion that after a certain point makes better imaging and soundscape and referred to Nord Acoustics. They agreed that was an interesting question to consider. O vs S convos rarely go so well.
I don't tend to have a lot of time to spend on the discussion boards but find the experiences of others often very helpful and sometimes engaging or entertaining. So I mostly lurk unless I have a question I can't find in a previous conversation. ... and this seems to be one of the few forums discussing Neurochrome amps, so that's interesting.
In 30 years I've owned 2 sets of speakers, 2 preamplifiers, one amp, 3 digital front ends, so I don't switch a lot from practicality and a not unlimited budget but am considering a bit of a shift at the moment. Currently:
Sabre DAC (Calyx) which performs pretty well even against a highly regarded valve DAC I auditioned recently.
microRendu & LPS 1.2
PassDIY B1rev2 buffer preamplifier
Classe Seventy A/AB amplifier with 70 high current watts
Proac Response 1SC
They sound pretty good in the current setup but thinking about either replacing the speaker with a harder to drive planar, which my amp may or may not satisfy in the long term. Or shift to an easier to drive speaker that might lead to valves. It could end up going either way and could be already decided by the time you read this in a day or two!
