Oli,
Do you have a specific instruments that you like to listen to? This might cut your list down a bit and able you to concentrate your efforts.

What's good - the Humphrey Lyttleton album? Seriously, it's not a good production or mix compared to the better 50's routine. Can't give titles currently as the box of jazz CD's is stored away currently. Sorry Dave, the Duke Ellington I was trialling

Can't help with the Blue Note stuff but you can't go wrong with a bit of Snowy White............ ahem, not too much though, rots your snout apparently

Oh and at first Lou Donaldson's Mr Shing-a-Ling wasn't my cup of tea but after repeated plays I like it a lot now, same with his Aligator Bogaloo. Andrew Hill's Black Fire is a "hard one" imho but definitely worth some perseverance.
All I can say is what have you done, you poor, poor fool You'll soon be spinning Bitches Brew and dismissing other listeners as heathens........

Yep, it doesn't quite hit my souls like the blues does but Jazz has grown on me a bit in recent times. I'm enjoying this Art Blakey LP, which is good news as it was nearly £40!!

Yes Jim Art Blakey - Moanin See pics in the threads, it's really very high SQ I should have looked at the thread more closely! Nice one expect that sounds rather good. I like Art Blakey. Blue note is a very rich record label to mine. In fact with all the stuff they are reissuing you could spend some serious money on this stuff.

Haha, No worries Jim, Yes it's a superb recording and really well pressed. It's very "Alive" in its sound and it's very easy to go through the album, as I have, twice already. I have just downloaded a Sh#t ton of stuff so I'll be mining the digital first, then possibly picking up a few more LPs as I go along when work returns to normal.

Joe Harley was a regular contributor to the early Tone Poet threads on Steve Hoffman but the Andrew Hill "warblegate" put paid to that. First hand knowledge thrown down the drain just because some internet keyboard warrior types that thought they knew more than Joe and Kevin Gray wouldn't accept their explanations for the mastering. Some of them even went as far as stating they wanted to be involved in the next sessions so they could check what was happening. Needless to say they said adios to the thread and left the tools to it....
