Are the badges original or do you have them made up?

I get all my badges made up using a UK company I've been using since 2016 Si. In this particular case, the client had existing badges he wanted to fit, despite the comment that "they are not Tannoys, have never been on holiday to Coatbridge nor have Tannoy had anything to do with them bar originally making the drive units". Still to some they'll always be Tannoys. It's a bit like someone calling Gamut RS series speakers "Scanspeaks" after the drivers they use! Saying that, I liked the copper of the badging he's put on the "RFC's" (ahem....)

They do look nice Paul, your woodworking skills are very nice, my talents like in other areas but respect for ability. As you say thankfully not Tannoy's
Tannoy's like a few other speakers I could mention fit for firewood only category for myself, before I get jumped on, my brother has owned many pairs including those monstrosities Kingdom Royals in tasteful bright red, truly grim on an epic scale. Like naim have never seen the almost cult like status among audiophiles for these wardrobes of aural destruction. Only one company makes truly decent dual concentric drivers and as I cannot own those due to cost I can but dream!
However really nice work Paul top stuff

These sound nothing like other speakers using those badges though pillbox36. You'd get it if you ever listened to a pair. I haven't ever listened to any any vintage Tannoys that I could personally live with nor any of the newer ones. They're about as far removed from the resonance and colouration associated with old (and some new) designs as about it's possible to get. Think of almost electrostatic clarity in the mids, with genuine bass extension and more than sufficient HF without ever becoming fatiguing, yet they retain the point source imaging and efficiency they're famous for.
Trouble is, if Tannoy produced them hand-built to a similar standard, and especially took the same care with crossovers, they'd double in price...they'd have to. The prerogative of someone like me is that I don't have such constraints as there are no distributors, no dealers nor a marketing committee leading engineering involved. I don't make that many but have yet to have anything but delighted clients. I also provide plans for those kitted up and with the DIY know how to tackle their own builds.
Perhaps when this current pandemic runs it's course you could be tempted and come to listen to some here?

A loudspeaker is the sum of it's parts, perhaps more so than any other piece of hifi equipment other than a TT.
I cannot over-stress just how much the cabinet brings to the sound and just how much colouration can be avoided by careful and thoughtful design. I've heard some pretty dire sounds from speakers using Acuton drivers yet they are also used to fantastic effect in the more successful cabinet and crossover designs. Vintage factory cabs for these drivers tended to be too short in depth, and the resultant standing waves were placed right smack into the vocal frequencies, as well as resonant front and rear panels destroying any hope of bass clarity. The secret is knowing which type of construction (and the fundamental design considerations for each driver) and tuning brings the best from the drivers and just how important that getting the right crossover design is in making or breaking an otherwise successful marriage of drivers to enclosure.
Each of those three parts can be further broken down to the extent that both my Mk1 Reference Fidelios and Mk1 RFC Canterburys have been bettered by what now replaces them in their Mk2 guises.

Ah, Tannoys, my favourite speakers! Not. But the last time I heard, which was a few years ago now, Paul was doing a great job removing the T-annoyness from the Ta-noise DC drivers. I'm sure he's getting even better since then at removing all those 'orrible resonances and colourations - many of which were due to xover and cabinet, I'm sure. Very nice looking, that Fidelio Mk2. Lovely work, Paul. Does the speaker come with a grille - or is the driver always on show?

Lovely work, Paul. Does the speaker come with a grille - or is the driver always on show? Thanks Jerry yes, the current crop of cabinet designs and crossover almost eliminate much of the things about the sound that some don't get on with, when hearing the Tannoy branded speakers. The Canterburys and Fidelios are buttery smooth by comparison and the acid test is most people who hear them want to stay and listen longer. Longer term you get to see just how revealing they are, of every upstream change without the fatigue or toppiness of more brightly lit speakers. They are capable of astonishing resolution, particularly in timbrel aspects, so things like bass timbre accuracy are outstanding whilst piano is rendered as naturally as you could wish for. All of my designs come with magnetic grilles so you can chose to hide the drivers or not as your tastes determine.

I've had a few bits made by a company down south. They do car badges mostly but also the blue atc badges and all of Naims logos.
