thats piss poor if im honest,id expct better from him given his level of workmanship That's happened in Transit Jamie, im 100% positive on that. Angus had this at his house and it was perfect. Just took mine off, had a look and its perfect. Mine came from Holland in a box and is fine. It went to Angus first, and it was perfect there. Italy has a notorious reputation for postal items being mistreated or just not delivered. Other than flying to holland and collecting it in person, I dont know how you prevent this from happening again. Where does Italy come into it? Have you seen the way that parcels in general are treated? I was at a post office sending out some loan items this morning, and the woman there emptied a postal sack on to the floor from waist height. I hope there was nothing fragile in there.

No, he was asked to check out was all working well on his SP10, as an earlier Kb that was sent to Italy arrived in less than perfect order. I hope I'm not speaking out of turn here, Drew, but he has had horrible luck. 2x Attemps for Vienna'd Kb's and now the HA103-SEL, have all arrived with issues, I believe to be caused by the mail. The HA103-SEL was assessed by Angus, prior to Drew hearing it, to try and isolate where the issue arises. The cart was perfect upon leaving Angus, of this I am 100% sure of.

Postage to Italy see's a rather inflated price compared to the rest of the EU because of its reliability issues. I experienced this posting Leo's Orchard Audio amps. They were on 48hr postage and took the expected time to arrive in Italy, wherebthey then sat for 7 days until someone bothered to try and deliver them. They didnt succeed but managed after 2 weeks. I've had it happen multiple times and I have not posted there since. I sent some Spotfire to Drew, 4 days after his first Kb left England from Angus and my cables got there about a week before the Kb I think. They are shocking

I sent another loan item to Italy recently. It arrived, and returned with no issues, and no visible signs of damage to the packaging. I do double box the bits that go there though.

Hi
To be honest, this reputation Italy seems to have is generally not applicable to the ubiquitous couriers such as UPS, TNT etc who are as reliable as they are anywhere else. I always use 'decent' couriers, as in this case. It's the standard Italian PO (which dealt with the Spotfires and Kontrapunkt) that- like the GBPO- can be erratic and risky to use with anything of value.
I have extensive experience importing and exporting from/to Italy and this time round the box was perfect, untarnished in any way and the internal packaging, intact. Killian thinks it may have been opened by the UK customs- as it was on the way from Holland- but the perfect packaging suggest otherwise. God knows what happened in this case. The fact there is no stylus guard probably didn't help.

Oliver, Jamie pointed out the rather ill-fitting central wooden block- Is yours the same by any chance?

Oliver you mentioned: " 2x Attemps for Vienna'd Kb's and now the HA103-SEL, have all arrived with issues, I believe to be caused by the mail."
Just to clarify Oliver, the Kontrapunkt issues had absolutely nothing to do with the mail. The first time it arrived with shards of metal inside the coil (as mentioned before). The second time it was still distorting but when returned to Angus and Killian latterly, worked for them without issues. There was a very odd and, to this day, inexplicable issue of the cart being incompatible with my system and distorting at the high end. Nothing to do with courier damage however...
But very bad luck, yes, undoubtedly :-)

TBH, i haven't looked at it in that much detail. My main concern was how it sounded, rather than how it looks.

The overall aesthetics don't do much for me at all but if it sounds as good as I expect, I'll be more than delighted.

Me too, Jim. Just a trick of the camera on the previous photo, in regard to the wooden block. Hopefully drew gets a cartridge that is right. The man needs some vinyl!!!

Difficult to live without some vinyl! I downloaded a few versions of that Janos fella doing the Cello Suites on that LP you brought round and TBH, the PecanPi is way off what we heard on the Vinyl. As is the Rodrigo y Gabriella tracks. The vinyl has pushed right out in front. Quite far in front actually.

Think your BB3 and new cartridge have really raised the game?
I am sure you will figure something out with the Pecan Pi to try and bring it a tad closer?

I have a LPSU On the way for the Pecan, but I dont know if it will make any difference, just thought I'd try it. I ordered it weeks back, so it could be here any moment. You remember what that's like ay lol

It cant do what the Vinyl did with the recordings I've found, but I'm yet to find the one Jim has on vinyl. I'd love to do a proper A/B vs the proper recording but I cant find it on digital. Youd be surprised just how good the PecanPi is though. Your silver disc spinning gadgets would be out the window!

I tried removing the link in the Pecan and used a 5v LPSU direct to the pi ( whilst keeping the 9v to the Pecan) Just got a load of white noise. Need to revisit

It will be a nice Christmas addition to your system lol Seems it's getting closer lol Apparently, the virus can live up to 4 weeks on certain surfaces, like toilet paper, according to certain sources, hence the panic buying of bog roll. You need to make sure it is dead before you use it.

Thanks for posting the photos Oliver. I packed mine away for return so wasn't able to check the underside again. As you noted, the angle of my photos are deceptive. I've no issues with the craftsmanship at all- it's maybe not the best looking cart out there but who gives a damn as long as it sings!

Youd be surprised just how good the PecanPi is though. Your silver disc spinning gadgets would be out the window! 'Course it can't do what the vinyl does, adding all that lovely compression and thd to make the sound nice and sexy! This is whatthe LP12/ittok-Ekos/Supex derivative cartridges did in exaggerated form for years until some of us began to see sense and Linn started a round of progressive improvements to milk enthusiastic owners further...
Spend some time with master recordings, untouched by the mastering engineer and you'll hear the obvious things done to vinyl cuts and pressings to make the sound 'nicer.' I know, I'm pissing in the wind here, but I feel it needs to be said. Vinyl may not be polishing a turd, the more money you spend, but there's flaws and compromises you can't get over, no matter how much you spend.
If I was going to spend a grand on my stereo, I'd probably have gone for an RMI dac or saved for a good used Benchmark, to have the best possible source to exploit the speakers as best as possible. A nice looking but unkown cartridge is a huge gamble though, but glad you're entranced by it - until the next one
