I have read great things about Dueland tinned copper speaker cable. Has anyone on this forum tried it? I need a lot of cable so before I punch the button, I would appreciate more comments from users.

Yes, I tried two 3m lengths. It was ok but nothing I wanted in my system on a long term basis. I made the Spotfire speaker cables not long after and it wasn't close imo. There are only two speaker cables I could recommend, and I make them both. The only other one I heard that would have made me spend was the Chord Epic Twin. It was the old version, which is better than the new one. Others will have different opinions but mine is right lol

Others will have different opinions but mine is right lol Epic twin speaker cable makes a passable recovery rope from agricultural needs (removing cows stuck in mud or water), forestry or a 3d rendering template for a old school video game weapon. Marginally better than QED offerings. My cousin uses the the phrase 'Epic fail' a great deal not quite in that category but close. As Oli mentioned, your opinion is valid for yourself, but he's right and I am absolutely convinced it should belong in the section labelled "Pants"

Maybe I didn't clearly explain..... The chord epic twin ran rings around the various cables I had here on audition BUT whenbu made my own, they annihilated them. Wasnt close Truth is, top quality speaker cable isnt cheap, no matter if you make it yourself. Stuff like Dueland boils my piss. It's just not great yet folk rave about it. I honestly dont understand the hype.

The truth is not many people can justify the expenditure on top class cable, especially if, like me, you need two 4 metre lengths. If its better than the Fisual Hollywood Twist I currently use I will be pleased plus you dont need plugs!

If its better than the Fisual Hollywood Twist I currently use I will be pleased plus you dont need plugs! Explain "justify" Most people (in HiFi) I have met, have either pushed most of their budget into the front end or the speakers. 90% of times, if not higher, absolutely no consideration is given to how pivotal a connecting wire can be. I was chatting to a fella this morning, who I said this exact thing to. Hes trialing some mummy speakers and whilst he's just bought some graphene speaker cables (from elsewhere) that are very loosely based on my "The Dream" cables, he was asking my thoughts about the combination of cable and speaker. I told him that in my opinion, that specific cable isnt right for the speaker. The Mummies are quite bright and can become harsh, very easily. He then told me that was exactly what he had been experiencing. He bunged his dueland cable back in, and he is now reporting a far better balanced sound. The crux of the matter is that cables, especially speaker cables could make or break a system so when folk say it needs "Justifying", I can't see what more justification it requires. It's about buying the right cable, not just expensive cable, or cables that sound good in someone else's system. Had he not changed the cables, he may have written those speakers off. He might still do, but now hes aware that cables make a huge difference. Which has been my opinion since day 1. Personally, the biggest revelation in my own system was my Spotfire speaker cable going in. Everything benefitted from it. There isnt another upgrade, apart from speakers, that will either lift the rest of the system, or cripple it. For me, that's all the justification I'd ever need. Pic of the system in question (no comment on it please)

Justify in my case means that I dont use my hifi that much ( its in the same room as the AV system) and most of the week I use it for about 40 minutes of an evening. I get enough out of it to go for small improvements that are considered really beneficial. I know you didnt ask for comments on the photo but I think those speakers are revolting!

I agree that speaker cable is vital to get right and that it can make or break a system.
I'd love to try the Spotfire - perhaps we can have a convo about a 2.5m pair, Oli!
Epic Twin. Cor, been there, bored my pants off. I'd certainly reject a system with that in it, I suspect, whatever else was there. Not tried the Dueland. I like Tellurium Q Silver - more lively and interesting than the much acclaimed Black and Black 2. Current fave is VdH Tea Track. Surprised myself with it. Came along as an eBay bargain and I thought 'why not?'. It's been in my system for a couple of months now. Very pleased. Not your traditional Bland and Dull sound at all. But where does he get these names from?
___
Nice looking system with those Mummies.

- and now you lot will tell me Bryston is crap and not as 'revealing' as your 'wonder amps.' ... now you come to mention it. Bryston amps have quite often been described as a bit bland - see M Fremer in Stereophile - www.stereophile.com/content/bryston-7b-sstsup2sup-monoblock-power-amplifier-page-5"Revisiting the Original 7B SST2s It took but a few minutes to hear what I reported in the review: the soft attack, murky sustain, and mutable decay. I revisited the Beatles' cover of "Roll Over Beethoven" and some of the other tracks, and added a few new ones, including "We Can Talk," from an exceptionally fine-sounding SACD of the Band's Music from Big Pink (Capitol/Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab). Through the original pair of 7B SST2s, the voices were positively overstuffed. I stand by my original review." Bryston then came along with a new version of the amp to 'fix' the problems which largely failed.

The smaller ones were quite good when I heard them (3B) and not at all murky. lean and brighyt might have described it better. My very local dealer has the bog equally mad priced Chord stuff and these are very good to my ears. Of course the amps you and Oli have are 'better' Simon - and probably a fraction of the cost too, but then, dealers wouldn't make any real money out of them and there's no 'cachet' for the audiophile punters to drool over and believe me, the audiophile/audiophool *retail market* is all about snake oil and cachet laden price-tags. Enjoy your sleeper amps. I wish I could join you

I've got a 3rd system at home that is purely wire in Duelund cabling. It does indeed have it's own individual tone and can see why some folks like it. I wouldn't necessary live with it all the time.

Before spending massive amount of money on speaker cable, is it not best to make sure the internal wires are of decent quality, and up to the job?

That Pair Cagey just bought are seriously well build and at €560 are what they'd have cost to make more or less. Cant argue buying used gear for the cost of the parts

Until I sell some of my stash if decks, amps and at least one pair of speakers, I'm effed frankly! Terrified of selling on ebay, too far out for people to collect and not sure the forums would want the stuff I have anyway... Anyway, I'd probably start low as discussed before and see where it takes me - now to get some time to listen to music via loudspeakers - EEK!!!

I already have someone interested in them if they do not suit my system, and I have not even advertised them yet. If I do like them, I may ship them on and build a bigger version just for the sake of it, as I also have a special birthday this year, but infortunately not the same as Oli.

My current speamers only need about 25W. A 686 is a little bit over the top.
This weekend will be the moment of decision. I have promised the wife one set of amps will go, so hopefully someone will but the FBs at the right price, even if they are not the best looking amps.
I didn't buy them for the looks though.

Yup, i know your speakers dont "need" the size of the 686, but by the time you finish messing around building a 286, you could have built a 686 for not all that much more. Also, what happens if you end up with different speakers? You may need a bigger amp and then thats another build. As always, your decision is final but i thought i'd point it out.

Hang on, Deluded make a perfectly good copper cable then coat it in much less conductive tin?
So they take copper and cover it in something that only 15% as conductive, that's genius...
