he is right ofc. Nothing to do with sensitivity, it's how much the impedance of the speaker varies. if it doesn't vary much then you won't get the variations in frequency response. It is the achilles heel of valve amps. Except for OTL valve amps. I'm interested to know why this bloke is not keen on the March Audio amps. They look good on paper and I have toyed with the idea of trying the stereo power amp. Cause I do not like the sound of any switching amp I have ever heard. And BTW my speakers never drop below 6 ohm. That is why I built them and use valve amps, You follow?

I wonder if the cases are made in Australia, or made in China, like the iphone. China can do good and bad you get what you pay for. Some people just dont like class D. For whatever reason. Had some really nice bits from China. I had a nice bit from China. She looked gorgeous with her kit off.

If you say so. I know diddly squat, you know everything, sorry for being so stupid, going to follow your vast knowledge, and flog all my kit and buy a bloody second hand music center hope that does not distort. I had better get some new ears while I am about it. There's really no need for that.
How the F#ck do you think I learned my trade eh? I listened and read up, talked to designers of the gear (not just their mouthy reps), demo'd my arse off and read some more - and still do given half a chance. Not saying you have a Sh#t system or Sh#t sound in the slightest, but it's always worth finding out a bit about the gear you favour and the compromises that help it to fit together to get a sound you like. I'm getting a shite sound in the main system currently and in my youthful naivety decades ago, I'd be swapping sources, amps, cables by the dozen in the hope of a quick fix. My issue is speakers with underdamped quite extended bass in a smallish almost square overdamped room (kills the highs a bit) and a crossover suckout right where my ears aren't so hot now (latest versions of this speaker are tons better in both areas, but no updates or upgrades can be done affordably). The result is a thunderous mess of noise that is only ameliorated if I get the speakers 24" or so from the back wall as they were designed to be used, in which case the rather nice mids can then be heard. At present, I can't change or sell the speakers (the money would be grabbed by the household and diverted elsewhere, so for political reasons, they stay for now. I still needed to isolate and check everything first though, to confirm my hunches about the room and speakers, especially a room such as ours which are notorious apparently and for the reasons stated above!

I sincerely apologise for any offence I have caused you. I have been at this since i was twelve years old scrounging bits from my mates dad and mowing lawns (had to buy my own mower which I towed behind my bicycle) after school and week ends, to buy my first real amp a Pioneer valve receiver, an idler drive Dual turntable which rumbled like a tram, and some Richard Allan drivers in a box made by the local go to guys for hi fi in Cape Town at the time, Hamrad. I am now 68. So 56 years of messing about has taught me something. My system sounds as good if not better than anything I have yet to hear that does not cost an absolute fortune, and that is an opinion of every person who has heard it. I do not use flea watt amps I use 78 W ultra linear valve mono blocks on 100 db speakers with a nominal 6 ohm load. I fully get your opinion on valve amps, most are bloody slow, wooly, bloated bass pieces of crap. I know what makes a good amp and what speaker it will like. It is just that I like a good modern valve amp for its mid range and upper sweetness, and if you think they do not do bass they are as good as any. My 15 inch is as crisp, deep fast, and tight on the valve amp as any solid state I have tried on the same speakers. Levinson, Pass Labs, Ayre, Acuphase, Premier, Perreaux, Audio Analog, Halcro, Parasound, PS Audio etc etc. I have access to all this high end stuff through a friends business and he is always looking for my opinion and he allows me to home demo any thing I fancy. So although I have a limited knowledge of technical things, I used to do reviews for a local Hi Fi mag at times, and I am always invited to demos by agents, because they value my ear and opinion. Enough of blowing my own trumpet, apologies again.

Blow your trumpets after Jan 1st son and it'll be a different matter. Da Bigmon has agreed to update me to El Vico Capitan. I've been down the park picking up some ideas for the likes of you.

I could never own something like that. It looks like £50 worth of Chi Fi. Some folk will not care about the build/design side, but for me it’s important. £50 worth of chi fi probably sounds very good but $2600 is cheap tat. How about $5000 of Japanese quality, still looks like a Mac mini but sounds like the best setamp with solid state grip.
