Used to have a 70cm set. Next up I'll be getting a 1.5m set. The former was a bit on the short side.
TIS Sounded lovely through my headphone rig. Plenty detail and smooth. It's very difficult going back to Sound Cords. The latter sounds a bit raw in comparison.

You'll have a hard job to better it unless you spend thousands on Transparent or similar - and they have filters built in to affect the sound...
I just love the way the emotional vibe is allowed through with the TIS and other cheaper cables tend to dilute this for some reason. The SSPmk2 is pretty darned good though.
My own short TIS ain't going anywhere!

Please put up with this daft question. How much will a 1m NVA TIS cost new, if sold in a hi-fi shop? Just a rough guess will do S.

Andrew, where on earth did you get that from?
I saw the raw cable when it was first assembled into the complete SSC-style TIS and it's not one I recognised from other audio confections. Substantial silver content I gather and it was considerably more expensive than the selected-source RG316U used in the SC family cables, but I wasn't ever told the source as you'd expect.
Shane, if this TIS cable was sold through a dealer, TRIPLE the online price (dealer profit plus VAT), so say, a £300 TIS would retail for around £750 plus VAT - THAT's the typical dealer profit on cables... Unless it's a Rega Couple which carries the standard meanie Rega margins...

So easily £3k for a 1m TIS, if sold through a naughty dealer! Am I wrong? If so, TELL ME S.

Take the online price and times it by three, so £400 online is around £1200 retail if a dealer had it including VAT. Dealers routinely make 60% on cables and in my day, it helped offset the demon deals we had to often do on some of the gear...

I actually heard it from the horses mouth that it was a goretex silver alloy cable. I’m talking about TIS mk1 though, and I realise mk2 is hand made. The Black Slink Goretex was one of the most highly regarded cables ever made and also very expensive so there would be nothing wrong with any comparison if it were the same or similar cable anyway. I don’t know how much ten DPA was back in its day but it would be high end pricing today.

I should add that whatever it is, it’s the best cable I’ve ever come across and then some.

Four years ago, I saw the stuff in white being unwound from a slim anonymous drum, cut to four lengths, tinned and tied together (Two per channel) and made with metal woven outer jacket off another drum onto Neutrik pro plugs into the cables I took home and subsequently bought. Lots of time, layers of heat-shrink and 'fuss and bother' in general in their makeup.
Forgive me, I thought 'Goretex' was the outer jacket material DPA used...
I have no idea at all about the TIS mk2.

I have no idea at all about the TIS mk2. I thought exactly the same as you until I heard otherwise. They seem to make a few cable stuff and all are expensive. You can buy used lengths of various ones from Germany if you are up for experimenting. I may do when I get some free time.

I see what you mean. No idea and it's none of my business to ask though. I was told the drum of cable cost a couple of grand to buy. Sounds superb whatever and I wish I could afford to buy more.

Its very expensive stuff but sonocally I’d say it’s worth it, from what I heard from TIS. I’m not usually an interconnect cable “believer” as the differences between decent cables aren’t usually game changers. TIS was the only cable I felt was worth changing for.
It’s still really expensive to buy tatty old used Goretex cables that will need reterminating, but at least you can try a metre at a time that way. I would well believe the price was thousands for a new reel. Wasn’t the DPA cable I mentioned, retailing at something like £500 for a 1 meter pair 25 years ago?

Looking back now, Andrew. How would you describe the TIS MK1 sound?

Mine's like this. No character that I can hear and it lets the music flood out, even on the less than 'Top End' DAC it's connected to. Using something lesser instead just takes some of the music involvement away, in this case anyway. SSPmk2 comes fairly close though and I like that one a lot (Pain to make up though with four individual wires to tie together), but my systems aren't front rank so this'll have an effect Top systems may show more of a difference.
