I recently purchased Olivers DCB1 pre amp and for various reasons that were nothing to do with the amp itself, found it so be only a moderate step up in performance from a basic stepped attenuator. I had it connected up with a freebie mains cable and just out of interest swapped around various cables so it was powered by a half decent MCRU mains cable that I had connected up to a headphone amp. The difference was distinct and transformational. I am deeply suspicious of the many snake oil products on the market but this was a step change in performance and really has made me think about mains related issues in general.

The difference was distinct and transformational. I am deeply suspicious of the many snake oil products on the market but this was a step change in performance and really has made me think about mains related issues in general. First up, Welcome to the forum! One of the first times I became aware of poor mains being a possible hindrance was when I tried a BMU. These don't work for everyone and I completely agree that if your listening space has a nice clean mains supply, it's unlikely that there will be any need for one, BUT it was an obvious improvement in mine and I built one (with help) very quickly after trying one. Mains cables are a huge bone of contention too, but again, I used a bit of Belden's shielded mains cable and some good quality plugs on either end. They worked out really well and the latest upgrade was to put some tiny ferrites on each of the three conductors. That didn't make any obvious difference so I didn't bother on the next three I made. Each one cost about £30, so as far as I am concerned it's not on the "foo" level just yet. I also tried one of those Valab fuses for £2.50 and honestly never heard a thing from it. Maybe that's why it worked? ?? lol

I'd just recommend a Mark Grant mains cable for fifty quid or so - high current shielded cable (looks nice if nothing else) and good quality standard plugs which work! One large ferrite clipped to the outside (mine are at the input end but I doubt it matters) and off you go

Yup if it sounds good it surely is. But If it don't measure right it must be Sh#t. You're not seriously thinking designers actually listen to the gear they build surely? They draw up a spec, then spend ages chopping and changing components until the measurements are spot on then flog you said item. Can't go wrong!

Here we go again..... Jez please come back, and boot these tools in the Bollocks. Ta. Harrison is out for a week. As we found previously, the inability to accept that others may find value in something you don't will lead to a permanent exit. Also, calling people names is just not acceptable. Both of these rules have been breached. One week out.

I do think that it is a bit harsh, we all know Jammy and his ways, folk must not take offence at his antics, he is a true blue Scot and I have always admired them for their directness, complete lack of tact, plain speaking etc. Always got along well with Scots, my best bosses were dour Scots. No offence implied, just a comment . Thank you.

I have Scottish blood, my family are Scottish and yet we manage to converse without feeling the need to be ignorant or dismissive of the things others wish to discuss. This forum is very clear in its ethos. Its detailed in the rules. I will show no mercy in my approach because life is too short. If people can't behave and respect the views of other, they will go through the banning proceedings or 1 week, 1 month and then eternity. I hadn't realised Jammy was masquerading under another username so I'll allow this one discression and if there are any further issues, it will be an IP ban.

I believe your Display names are now locked in place. Plugin is installed and i think it's working so that should help with matters of confusion.

Bugger, was looking forward to The Engine being a mod. Perhaps he could have a go on a full moon or something? During a full moon he is usually lurking in some hedge row with his camera taking "Photographs, Wink Wink"
