The pre90 is smooth and linear, but quite boring I ave one here in the lab for hook up duties. For the money you can do a lot worse. X26pro gets very warm 40W of class a stage but shunting the dacc chips into current mode. Soundstage is quite ordinary and within the speaker boundaries and its just a measurebater dac. Even with Mr.C's help its just average with great SINAD lol

Plugged the Kin back in. Yes, digital is a little worse, but when I put the vinyl on……

One review I read said it gave the HF a boost. That would be dangerous with Triangle speakers. Got a link? I could do with a laugh ASR:

Stereophile: HereNo interest in his opinion. The guy is using Macintosh amplification and a Freya Preamp with "tubes" in..... The Topping will sound ultra forensic to him. He obviously loves the mega lush sound. I'd buy the Topping BECAUSE of that lol Seriously, it's going to be different when you swap out a valve pre. I'd try the topping because you can send it back. If the Topping does a good job...you can then send it back and make a move with more confidence

actually he's a lot better than most of these youtube types but you're right he's not on the same page as us with what he wants.
I could listen for 6 hours to jazz or something ambient but 6 continual hours of rock music on my system, I'd feel pummelled. Unless I played it really low level but what's the point of that? But to me that's how it is meant to be.

It's just one the neutral side of warm, absolutely grain free no question, it is possible to be slow for a SS pre? I have seen them for less than £375

There is a Gustard P26 in Holland for €400, in black. Obviously it will sound better than a silver one.

Another crazy thought. A Hammond project box, some RCA sockets and an Elma selection switch, wired up with PC-OCC cable. Build an RCA switcher, so I can run my amp off the DAC or the Kin.

The switch box solution is cheap and simple and solves the problem.

Before jumping down the SS preamp Route, I need to hear the BB3 with a SS pre amp. I guess I could plug the Graham Slee Majestic into the circuit, as that would give me a flavour of what to expect.

The switch box solution is cheap and simple and solves the problem. True, but a Passive pre is just one step beyond. I already have a SA I could fit as the volume control.

As I said to my wife, it will be in Our House. At the time I was travelling with her, as I like driving in my car.
My other thoughts are a pre based on a Neurochrome UB, or 2, a 10K SA and an input selector. Should be ok as well.

Just remind me how much a BT2 is please?
Tom has a low noise pre amp power supply. Looks neat, and is low noise. Any real benefit from going O core?

I can get a Topping Pre90 for €420. Is it worth a gamble? I have heard it measures as well as a Benchmark HPA-4. So we know it measures well, but not sure it will sound good in my system.
I have just popped the Majestic into my system to see if I can live with an SS Preamp using Vinyl. So this is feeding the 686 using the balanced connections, and using a run of the mill cable with Neutrik TRS to XLR connectors.
I have to say I hated the first album I played. Second one seems better. I may have to adjust the loading. At the moment I don’t have any loading plugs fitted. It needs more time to warm up, but it could also be down to the pressing etc.
Love over gold is sounding good at the moment. The first album, The Jam - The Gift was on the verge of making my ears bleed. I think Triangle speakers need careful pairing to avoid being bright.

I know I was the one to throw the Topping into the hat, forgetting you had Triangle speakers that don't need pairing with anything too analytical. I've got two items from Topping, only cheap ones but neither adds any warmth to the sound. 420euros is a decent price and you'd get most, if not all your money back should it not be suitable. Sorry I'm going to have to leave this decision to you Kevin.

That way I get no earache when I am not using my HiFi.

I believe there is a touch more detail then I get with the Kin.
