The AD is 41 step. It is built to spec for AD, so I was hoping I could find who made it to see if they did a motorised version that woukd be compatible with the Glasshouse remote kit in my pre-amp.
TKD are compatible, and the construction looks similar, but they don't do a motorised version.

So Alan has kindly sent me a 48 step SA from Khozmo to try (before I buy) and I have fitted it today. Being non motorised, there was no need to move anything inside the Kin to fit it. A bonus as it was quite a quick job, once I worked out which wires were what…
I popped it in before rushing out the door to pick my daughter up from school, so apart from turning it on and making sure the magic smoke did not escape, I didn’t have a chance to listen to the changes it makes to my system.
Well, I have just fired up the system and listened to an ice cube falling into a glass. Yes, I can still hear it…. Good news, I have not messed up the installation. Listening to a couple of tunes, and it certainly seems a clearer, slightly less muddled sound.
More serious listening may happen over the weekend, but right now it is apéro time…

There is no doubt that the Khozmo is a better pot in the Kin than the Alps Blue. The soundstage has opened up, bass sounds better defined at the very low end. Looks like I will need to send Mr Firebottle some money….

I could have told you that 😉🤣 Have you not seen Alps Blue policy of "destroy on sight" 🤣 On a serious note, top marks for trying one and glad it's showing why they are worth the spend.

I have decided I am bored of looking at a blank face plate, so I am thinking of adding this.... Attachment Deleted

It's a good move. We did that ages ago and other than buying a specific PC-TRIPLE C arm cable, I see no reason to go back.

I hate auction snipers… I was winning a couple of TFK PCC88 (one “real” one) for €20 and got pipped in the last second. “C’est la vie”, I guess. Anyway, it is pretty annoying. I am not sure how long valves last, but my recent purchases will give me 4 sets of spares for the Kin and the BB3.
Anyway, my friend who introduced me to the the cube is coming around again today. We will see if he notices any difference now that the SA is fitted. Although I can hear the ice cube, it is not as “front and centre” as it is on his system, so it makes me wonder if it is the source (Amazon Music HD) or something in my system which is the limiting factor. I think from the DAC on, everything is sorted, so it could be my home built PC, or the cable between them.
The coax is a Ricable DH2, which I bought cheap.

Anyway, my friend who introduced me to the the cube is coming around again Just like Carly Simon. Does he use the exact same loudspeakers as you? And in a very similar room? If not I'd say that would surely account for any ice cube related differences.

No.
JBL ARRAY 1000 + 880 Magnat Quantum Edlestein
To put my mind at ease, I listened to this directly from the DAC, and it sounds exactly the same. It is there, but not shouting out front and centre.

There it is then. Speaker difference will swamp any other difference there might be.

Anyone tried an Isoacoustics ZaZen II? I am tempted to add one underneath my turntable.

I am wondering if a butchers block with a few decent feet would be better.

Is MDF denser by volume compared to Maple or Walnut?
Yes, it is. It has to be an MDF block with fancy recessed feet.
MDF density is about 700-850 kg/m3. Walnut 641-689 kg/m3 Maple 625-753 Kg/m3

The isolation shelf needs more thought, I would like to try one…. However I am tempted to get some Isopuck minis to go underneath the phono stage, and pre amp. I can’t see a minimum weight listed anywhere. Not sure they will make a massive difference, but I am impressed with what the Isopucks do under my speakers.
