Live that sexy Alphason Tosh combo. I love S arms. I have a xenon in need of a rewire .....anyone ? The Toshiba is a seriously underated TT. If you can isolate it well enough, it is superb. Can suffer Boom if you don't.
With the Mission 774, it was the best budget combo I have ever heard. 100%
With the Alphason, it just didn't work. The Alphason sounded mushy and smeared and I regretted letting my 774 go. It was the last time I listened to anyone's HiFi wisdom.
I later put the Phonomac modded AT1010 on it and it sounded divine. Only bettered when I replace the Toshy with the SP10MK2.
The Inspire quest with Goldring 2100 was a stunningly good listen at the time. I didn't fully appreciate how good it was until later on. I am going to get me another Goldring Cart just to see how it does on the SP10. See if my memory is tricking me. "Eric Clapton's - Hello Old Friend" was my go to track on that combo. It had a really nice pace about it and I loved the tone.
The Sony was a let down. At the time, they were selling at £300-500, with no automatic functions working. I nabbed mine for £250 from an estate sale. They said it was fully working, sent a video showing it working and I paid up. when it arrived, the arm didn't lift and it didn't return to base at the end of a record. I was still new to vinyl and manually cuing made me nervous.
I sold it for what I paid. It did sound superb though. I put an AT95e on it. I remember listening to Rod Steward - Angel, The drums were so descriptive and powerful that I was totally addicted. I would take a fully working one right now, but don't need it!

I use a Goldy 1042 cart on the Technics and I think it sounds great . And I've tried most mid price carts readily s available in the UK.This is my 4th 1042 which is a record for me Although it's not for the beginner to set up due to the finely detailed stylus. I now plenty who claim it suffers from distortion when all it suffers from is ham handed setting up ! My advice is go for the good old Baerwald set up. If your not happy with the inner grooves see if a Stevenson protector can be DV downloaded anywhere. This puts the emphasis on the inner grooves whereas the Baerwald is a good all rounder . Get it right . Put a drum solo on ... and smile.

I just realised I haven't put a pic of my TT on lol.

You can't replace it for the same money, it's too good.

2014 was a good year for turntables. The only one I still have is the Akai, picked it up for £8 & it was actually the first 'hifi' turntable I'd owned. Great pics. I always fancied a LAD deck. I liked the sound of the Sony but wasn’t keen on the looks. The Akai is pretty and I’ve never seen one before.

Those Akai are ok its just what is under the platter that aint I found the original box in the loft round Mum's when I was clearing the house out (think I passed my original AP003 on to a family member?). Bought the one pictured locally for £8, got it running (just needed a new belt & it already had an AT cartridge in it that had a new stylus). It now resides in the box in a cupboard, I'm really just keeping it for sentimental reasons.
