Wouldn't be my choice of finish but now I see it, it does sort of suit the shape.
I didn't realise the Spicas were that large.

I like speakers that look a little unearthly.

They go lower too, lowest frequency is 31hz but they are only -6dB At 40hz. They will never rattle windows but they don’t sound bass light, Soundstage for any Spica is huge. www.stereophile.com/content/spica-tc-60-loudspeaker-measurements

I honestly can't stand the sight of seeing external crossovers.

Which coincidentally also has a sloping baffle.

Three things tempt me with external crossovers. Firstly the TC50 was improved by removing the crossovers and placing them externally. Also that RFC guy recommended it for sonic improvement. There is also the opportunity to upgrade crossover bits without having to mess around inside.

If you are gonna do it, Do it he way ARC did, all the same you are introducing additional connectors to the signal path.. pinkfishmedia.net/forum/threads/arc-audio-reproduction-company.146525/page-3

If you’re going to the trouble of removing the cross overs why not move them between the pre and power amps 😏

So the question that is bound to be asked is:
Would it be better to have the Crossovers nearer the Amplifier or the Speakers

I’m thinking of making bases out of MDF to make them look like an SBL-esque floorstander. I may mount the crossovers in the bases, until I’m sure, I will likely park the project.ive learned from bitter experience not to rush in when you’re not sure.

Better to do the xover in the digital domain and then it doesn't matter.
I've always wondered about the people who are obsessed about the effects of vibration in the capacitors of amps and cd players but not concerned about the caps in xover of a speaker where vibration is a dozen orders of magnitude higher.
I think the reality is it doesn't make a blind bit of difference, at least not that we can genuinely hear.

Heard these this morning - rothaudio.co.uk/product/pro-audio-5/Someone on eBay was flogging them at fifty quid the pair (normally £249) and even at the usual price, they're blinking stunning for close to wall mounting. clear enough, fair depth perspective and no 'muddle' that I could identify. if this is where cheap imported powered and active speakers are going, you can keep the ott exalted brands...

If you're doing that, I'd be inclined to leave the backs of the bases largely open, otherwise if you made them as sealed boxes they'd probably have internal sypathetic resonances that could colour the sound.

Already done all this malarky i know full well it did not make a blind bit of difference to my ears

I do say this a lot. How the Pros do it. Rack mount X-Overs, dump the originals.

Active with DSP is the best way to go by far. Room correction, digital filters, any number of drive units, the lot. But the Audio brigade want lots of boxes and wires to fiddle with. A couple of those ProArt amps Geoff loves, a Beringer X-over like AliT uses and some measurement kit to set it all up would transform pretty much every system for the better (he says doing man maths whilst he's typing.....)

If you do go digital active there's actually a massive amount more to fiddle with. You could spend several lifetimes just mucking about with the DSP settings.
