These are bang tidy, satin black finish, consecutive serial numbers, just fitted with a brand new matched pair of Coles 4001G super tweeters. There's a few marks on the cabs and one nick in one grill, but electrically and mechanically they are storming. I've totally stripped them down, resoldered all the joints, deoxit'd any push fits, checked every part in the XO's and performed the dangerous task of running around the coils on each drive unit to remove any loose magnetic particles that had accumulated over the years. They're on the T'bay for £550, 500 quid for a member hear. Full suite of pics to be found at Spendor BC1 Flickr ImagesAny imperfections are detailed in the images and shown in the hi-res images linked above.

Might be an idea to indicate where they can be collected from.

Well they were a bargain. I've heard an older set one time and don't get the fuss about them myself but it's all subjective I suppose.
I bought my JM Labs from a bloke in Sheffield although he was right on the outskirts. Think it was raining at the time, don't remember exactly.

Those BC1's are later issue with proper port and better main drivers. SP1/2's suffer terminally from hardened driver surrounds. Applying brake fluid on the surrounds can *only* can fix it for a few months, but it doesn't last and you need to re-do according to a pal with SP2/3's (similar style main driver). SP1 series 1's and related SP2mk1 don't suffer so I'm informed, but all SP1/2, SP2/2/3 and so on up to a few years ago (first issue 'R's?) do apparently. I think Spendor can replace said surrounds but not sure, so the owner would have to ask them and as it's a pita I doubt it'd be cheap. Good SP1/2's shouldn't sound too different from BC1's apart from a general improvement in power handling and further bass refinements (that's what I found directly comparing my own BC1's - 1976 issue but later better main drivers - with new SP1/2's)
I was talking about Sara's with some ex-owners yesterday, with huge silly grins all round. Hugely wrong they were and they varied a bit from pair to pair sadly, but funky with it and huge fun. Grace Jones NEVER sounded better

Theres something defo amiss with the FR of the sp1/2, I need to measure them and investigate fully. I dont think it's a midbass surround issue though, they still supple. More like a tweeter super tweeter xo issue.
Well see once I measure them.

All Spendor SP1/2 and SP2 models apparently suffer main driver surround hardening - all catalogued in the Spendor yahoo group, now migrated to 'groupls.io' and this characteristic wasn't known about when these particular surrounds were used as it took a few years to occur. A fix was to paint brake fluid on the surrounds ONLY on both sides which restores suppleness for a few months at least. Once Phil Swift took Spendor on and the R series began to be introduced, the surrounds were changed to avoid this issue. Spendor used to be able to repair some of these drivers, but I don't think all of them.
The original SP1 and I think, SP2, don't seem to suffer so, but my pal's SP1's, which actually still sound really good to me, do seem to have a 'stiffer' main driver suspension than my BC2/SA2 drivers as well as better and louder bass performance than mine. Not that any of you are interested really.
