Nice first pressing for sale on AoS. I'd have had that if I'd not been demoted there.... Anyone fancy buying it for me?

The music or the first pressing quality? Hint - it's VINYL
Such a refreshing change to hear it on the first remastered CD (and corresponding box set).

Much as I am a fan of digital recording and replay I have to say neither Hendrix nor Zeppelin sound right to me on CD. Probably because they were the two main artists I played to death as a youth so I think the added sound of the vinyl became integral to my appreciation of them.
I've got a minty copy of III but it isn't a first press.

Same here and, daft or not, I still love the tactile element of vinyl. As an aside I saw them live at Knebworth in 1979 too, the first show on August 4th.....

Lucky swine. The two bands I loved that I never had any hope of seeing live were Zep and Steely Dan (until 1995 I think when the Dan started touring again and I ended up seeing them twice).
Going to sell most of my vinyl next year but my copy of III will be amongst the albums staying for sentimental reasons. 'Tangerine' in particular has some 'special memories' for me.

My turntable (LP12) is staying, it has sentimental value for me as it was the first luxury item me and my wife bought after getting our first house.
Zeppelin were great too, was a long day as we were there the day before and I was two weeks away from my 17th birthday... I tried keeping up with the "bigger boys" so spent most of the concert day with a hangover... Chas & Dave were on the bill that day too!

It's irrelevant to you, but with an old LP12, you're seriously not going to hear the music on this album to its full potential - in my experience, but what the hell, I retained this recording on vinyl because of the spinny disc thing embedded in the gatefold sleeve
I did see Zep, at Earls Court in 1975 (Saturday evening gig), The noise was so loud it damaged my ears (I'm paying the price today as they never fully recovered despite blocking them up to minimise the pain) and yet had they turned the volume down a bit, the quality of the PA system wasn't too bad I remember - from outside the auditorium, it was quite intelligible.
The band's music of course and to me, is beyond criticism of any kind
Macca, when you get your tannoy thingies working, you may feel different about the likes of Led Zep on CD/download..

The only Zep I have on CD is IV and the Mothership compilation. But they don't have the 'magic' of the vinyl versions. Hopefully you are right about the Tannoys, I think all the early Zep was mixed and mastered on Tannoys.

Some recordings also done in the US and Europe, so JBL for the former probably and not sure on the latter, unless all the final mixing was UK based. I had an original copy of IV and again, it smothers a bit, some of the mixing decisions I can clearly hear on the digital versions. Mothership was from the 1990? masters. Interestingly, the box sets are 'toppier' I think, than the album versions from the same remasterings..
Worst on vinyl by a huge audible mile is II. Whole Lotta Love has some form of processing done (Fairchild compression?) and the vinyl just adds shedloads of bass distortion to it. The Lemon Song has an odd tape head azimuth issue (listen in mono as I did on my Hacker record player in the early days) which the 1990 CD's sorted.

I - recorded 1968 Olympic Studios.
II - Olympic and Morgan Studios in London, England; A&M, Quantum, Sunset, Mirror Sound and Mystic Studios in Los Angeles; Ardent Studios in Memphis, Tennessee; A&R, Juggy Sound, Groove and Mayfair Studios in New York City; and the "hut" in Vancouver.
III - Rolling Stones' mobile, Olympic, Basing Street and Ardent in Memphis TN
IV - Basing street, RS mobile, Sunset Sound and Island.
They liked to get about a bit after the first one, clearly.

dsjr I have Cirkus, Kore and Lingo 2 so it's not all bad lol If it's an original plinth, you really need a Tiger Paw style top plate and cross strap, as these latter render the plinth as little more than a box frame. Cirkus or not, the thing still 'boings' a bit, although less than before ime.
Linn plinths after the early 90's, did a lot of quality control on the consistent hardness of the mounting 'blocks,' the holes the fixing bolts pass through were drilled smaller with an enlargement at the top where the bolt's fixing nut sits, a motor corner top plate bolt was added and on current plinths, the already substantial fillets have been further enforced with tacky looking corner brackets.
As an aside and nothing to do with sound quality. I can't believe Linn have done at least three versions of the sodding Lingo now. The first one did well in reducing the driving voltage when running, although I think maybe the simpler Armageddon supply was smoother. Currently Lingo 4 I think, but maybe the surface mount components and modern motors used may require a revised model.

I got me an Avondale Taps 2 LP12 psu. Haven't even tried it and i have had it a couple of years. Supposed to be excellent.

I went off on one again - sincere apologies....
I blow very hot and cold on the bloody LP12, I really do! Firstly, I'm not overly sensitive to the belt drive wow, although it is there 'just a touch' in comparison with digital or a damned good idler/direct drive deck - what I cannot abide is 'idler drone' which is an upper-bass frequency harmonic which so many idler decks give, even Lencos at times although some are pretty silent. With Linn belts now at fifty quid (how the f*** can they justify this price?), it becomes more important. The bass quality has improved no end in recent LP12's and even the Majik version is clean 'down below' now - I always was a Basik Plus (Jelco made?) fan, so have high hopes of the Jelco made replacement now fitted to the Majik LP12. I doubt I'll ever hear it with anything other than the Adikt though (a Goldring 1012GX in drag but smoother from memory).
It may surprise you lot, but I was hoping to scrounge and cobble together for as little outlay as possible, another 'Frankenstein' LP12 out of cast-off parts, just for the fun of it and to see what I've been missing (good and bad) over the last thirty odd years. I've been buoyed up by hearing latest spec samples sound so much livelier and clear than older ones I've fettled (one with an Inspire top-plate with motor moved for no audible benefit I could hear).
All this is nothing to do with Led Zep III FFS...
"Measuring a summer's day, I only find it slips away to grey The hours, they bring me pain
Thinking how it used to be Does she still remember times like these? To think of us again? And I do
Tangerine, Tangerine, living reflection from a dream I was her love, she was my queen, and now a thousand years between"

Why? I have a first pressing and it's not that good you know.. Those Plumb Atlantic pressing aint all that they are cracked up to be. Same with the early YES 1st pressings on the same label I found the 1972 Green/Orange pressings to be better.

Zep sound pretty good on my Tannoys ... mind you I much prefer Celebration Day to the originals, I think they sound shite in comparison....
