For me it’s very little. In the last 5 years I have probably bought less than 10 brand new albums from artists I didn’t have music from already. The rest have been back catalogue. The basis for this is that almost nothing new that I have heard has been of interest to me.
Of those I did buy, I can’t think of a single one that has been a worthwhile purchase. The most recent album I play is “Toy” from Yello: A band whose entire output I also own.
Am I unusual or is it an age/era thing? Most of the new stuff just sounds poor to me, both in musical content and production.

Aye guilty.......must keep away from Amazon whilst offshore. Mostly cds (25) vinyl (5) per year approx. I bought this for £325 nice to see prices as high as £1450 now. www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/queen-studio-collection-18lp-coloured-vinyl-box-set/Now i must say being a huge Queen fan, ive already got all the original lps on vinyl.....and this box set (despite being coloured) sounds better....!!! Wish I'd bought 10 box sets now.

I am also stuck; cant find anything new that has a melody, a tune I can whistle, some witty or intelligent lyrics. I have never tired of any of the music written by the great composers whether it be classic or music from the likes of the Gershwin's, Cole Porter, Burt Bacharach, Irving Berlin, all the great Broadway composers, Lennon Mcartney, George Harrison, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, early to mid Stevie Wonder, Motown, Soul, etc; hell the list is endless for writers and composers from 1920 right up until the dawn of the 80's, till electronic music and the industry cocked it up. I have always been more of a fan of the composer over the artist.
This music has stood the test of time it is still performed by every artist who is worth their salt, it is adaptable to any type of music. There is so much of it out there they were so prolific in their out put that I never seem to tire of it no matter how many times I have heard it. There is always some artist giving it a new spin so to speak.
I am a child of the 50's, 60's and 70's. Born at the dawn of the 50's, (my dad loved music if it was not classical, it was opera, big bands, jazz he loved Louis Armstrong, musicals, country, he loved Patsy Cline, so called american classical music like Gershwin etc, my Mom loved Elvis and Bill Haley and anything new), a teen in the 60's, a young man in the 70's.
I do not think I have bought any new music for years, except for some Paula Cole, Laura Fabian, and Fiona Apple. Mostly I scrounge around for second hand CD's which sell for next to nothing.

Back catalogue used CDs are the best value music format ever. I really shoud buy more of them. I need to spend more time rifling through them when I see them.

Mostly artists we already know, although I now have a liking for Tangerine Dream and Ulrich Schnauss, blame DSJR for that. I guess 5/6 cd's and the odd vinyl every month.

I buy anything released by the mighty Half Man Half Biscuit. Other than that, it's mostly back-catalogue stuff; for instance I recently bought an Al Green box-set, Neil Young's Decade (to replace a knackered vinyl copy) and Stevie Wonder's 'Talking Book'. I also buy shedloads of classical CDs, some of which are new releases. but none of which contain 'new music' as such.
The way I see it, I'm an old bloke, so there's no reason why I should like the sort of music young people like, and I (mostly) don't, though to be fair I actually hear very little of it, as I only listen to Radio 4.

it is dead but the back catalogue is so big you'd never get through it in one lifetime.
last new release I bought was Daft Punk Random Access Memories. Don't know how long ago that is. I'd say two years but I bet it is more like five.
Sometimes I check out stuff from obscure new bands that people recommend but it always turns out to be derivative or shite. Or derivative shite. Obscure bands are obscure for a reason.
I do buy a few cds a month but all old stuff as I'm replacing all my vinyl with CD. You can't fault cd. The master tape for £5.99. You know exactly what version your getting and you've got it forever, not subject to the whim of some internet streaming service.

Midge Ure just looks wrong without hair. Somebody buy his records so he can get a decent syrup and an eyebrow pencil to draw on that little ‘tache and pointy sideburns.

Do you mean my designer stubble ? Next it will be a man tail and an elastic band for a scrunchie. You still wear those loafers with the tassels and no socks?

What, NO SOCKS! The only feet attire were socks should not be worn, flip flops.

You've gone to far. I have never ever worn no socks. I have long advocated torture for men wearing no socks as you well know. And baseball caps and shorts and saggy pants and ginger hair among other things. I still have me loafers though. Mod innit ? .

Jeans, teeshirt, baseball cap and sandals with no socks all summer for me.
Anybody taking the piss in person will be subjected to a full power Soto Makikomi, followed by an advanced backward Okuri Eri Jime and left to await the ambulance!
