The Cult, Def Leppard, The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays. Hard to think of anymore. For me good music ended in 1979, started up again 89/90 and then petered out altogether by about 1997.
The 80s were mostly a wasteland of synthy-shite, New Romantic and Phil Collins. And U-bastard - 2 (although I still quite like the first album).
Oh yeah forgot Joy Division although was their first in '79 or '80? That's a top album, Unknown Pleasures.

Some of the synthi shite I liked, although I was getting a little old for the pop stuff by and large..
Level 42, UB40 In Dub, Depeche Mode (who got better and better as the decade went on), The Cure, Milli Vanilli (yes, really, it's a bloody good pop album regardless), Paul Young, Howard jones, Grace Jones' Slave To the Rhythm (original version), Art of Noise, Tee Dee did some great music in their first final hurrah! Robert Plant gave some great hints as to where Led Zeppelin may have gone had Bonzo not passed away. Steely dan did some classic stuff too as did the 80's incarnation of King Crimson (the trilogy of early to mid 80's albums remain a high point for me, both musical and on dem...). Steve Hillage 0 And Not or/For To Next was a huge hhigh point but others wouldn't agree...

Unless you count Gaucho which just edges into 1980 Steely Dan released nothing at all from then until 1999.
Got all Percy Plant's records, forgot about him. Never keen on Depeche mode. I like ZZ Top's '80s stuff. And Bowies'. Better than that 'Starman' shite. I always skip that one.
