I don't think the Neurochrome will be any different to the Nords.
The Nords are probably giving a 'truthful' sound. The Icons no doubt will be altering the frequency response to give the 'rich' sound. And the Arcam 8P although it's not a lightweight is still out of its depth with the brutal load. So it's okay-ish but still obviously sub-optimal compared to the Nords. Anyway that's my take.

No thread drift intended but whilst not cheap, from pretty much all I've read they are killer

Don't have an owner so no-one to please but myself. Have always liked Gryphon kit ever since I saw their modular preamp in Hifi News, in the mid 80s, think it was Β£5k even back then for a basic 2 line inputs, additional bolt on modules (separate boxes) at additional cost.

My apologies John, I assumed wrongly that you would have a 'boss'

Have had 2, but both got the sack for excessive jaw flapping. ππ The 2nd one, I worship the ground she should be under.

I've don't the ncore/ nuerochrome test a few times. The ncores have more grip in the bass the nuerochromes are sweeter up top.
If I was going active that's how I'd do it.

I know Baz mentioned upstream that he wondered if the Ultime didn't like koetsu carts, but I really can't see this. Between us the South Coast Posse have 3 x BB3, albeit slightly different builds,& all have used a Koetsu Black Goldline with them because we all heard it is a fabulous combination no doubt. The output of the Black is 0.6mV, John's Rosewood Signature Platinum is 0.4mV, & my Urushi Vermillion is 0.2mV, & the BB3 has absolutely no problems with any of these carts so unless Ollie/Alan have done something different for the Ultime then I think that line of thinking is a red herring. It is a real shame John didn't have either his Icons or Nords available & as such it was hard to understand what was going on. I have heard Jamie's John Wood amp sound glorious before, & I am relieved that Jamie has reported no problems once he put it back in his system, & although it was only for a couple of tracks it sounded great with the BB3, just not with the Ultime. I guess it will remain a mystery until John gets his other amps back.

Does anyone know what the input impedance of the John Wood amp is?

High enough not to matter, think he has a 10k pot in there, maybe 20k.
I wouldn't worry about it Alan, the Logans would kill the JW amp, way too much impedance swing for a transformer coupled output.
